A Letter To My Children

As Thanksgiving approaches, I am making a list of things for which I’m thankful. Strange things come to mind, such as hot water, makeup, warm socks, those things,  but so much more,  I’m thankful for you!

To my firstborn, Steve, I’m thankful for the loving spirit we share. For all the times you’ve shown your love with your writing. These words are my treasures. I’m thankful for the privilege of watching you become a wonderful husband and father. I’m thankful for your affectionate nature. Our phone conversations are special and I love your hugs!

To Nancy, who came into my life when your father did, I’m thankful for the special bond we share. I laugh when I remember you calling me from Atlanta to tell me your toilet wouldn’t flush. I smile when I remember all the times you confided in me and wanted me to “tell dad.” I love the times when you panicked and called me as a new mother. With great pride I have watched you become such a good mom.

To Rob, I’m thankful for the way you make me laugh, and the fun we have together. Such a sensitive, kind, son…I’m thankful for your patience and the great sense of family I see in you. I sometimes wonder if you were really that uncomplicated child that I remember, or was it that we both benefited from my being a little older, and much wiser when you came into our lives? A little of both, I suspect.

This Thanksgiving, take the time to tell those closest to you how very loved they are.
